Originally opened as a spa hotel in 1910, with a storied history of famous clientele like Italian actor Sophia Loren, Palazzo Fiuggi is a modern wellness retreat in the forested hills of Lazio, just an hour south of Rome. The expansive (64,000 square feet) marble-clad spa includes three thalassotherapy pools, which use mineral-rich Fiuggi thermal water for its time-tested healing properties. Treatments range from Dead Sea mud rituals and detox treatments to vibra sound healing and psammotherapy utilizing the heat of quartz sand to relax the body and relieve muscle pain. Rooms feature silky linens, tufted chaises, and sweeping mountain views. Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck designed the onsite restaurant menu, with colorful, seasonal-produce-forward dishes. Not only do guests have easy access to acres of surrounding nature, but they also have a cinema room for cozy movie nights.
